How to Use AHK-Cu Peptide

How to Use AHK-Cu Peptide

Our AHK-Cu peptide Hair Tonic can help bring out the best in your hair - if you use it right. We see a lot of misconceptions about how to use AHK-Cu peptide, so we put together this quick guide to walk you through the protocol. Key takeaways:

  1. Part your hair so you can reach your entire scalp
  2. Dispense the serum directly on the scalp and massage it in with your fingertips
  3. Let the peptide serum sit and work its magic - do not rinse it out

Super simple. No need to overcomplicate it. Just make sure you stick to the routine every single day or night. Consistency is everything. We’ll share some more AHK-Cu peptide usage tips below to help you make the most of our serum.

Why Add AHK-Cu to Your Haircare Regimen?

Before we get into how to use AHK-Cu peptide, why does it belong in your daily ritual in the first place? You might have heard about the copper peptides skin benefits. But AHK-Cu can work wonders for your hair and scalp, too!

It differs from GHK-Cu (which is way more well-known) in its amino acid sequence (alanine-histidine-lysine vs glycine-histidine-lysine), which is what narrows its potential specifically to the hair and scalp. Most of the literature we have regarding this particular peptide shows that it can support the hair follicle and scalp environment directly.

Bear with us while we get a little scientific. AHK-Cu can play a role in dermal papilla cell signaling and it may even modulate how sensitive your hair follicles are to DHT (the root cause of pattern hair thinning). Your dermal papilla cells are in charge of how long your hair growth cycle lasts, and there’s reason to believe AHK-Cu encourages them to stay awake longer.

The problem with most copper peptide serums is the main active ingredient is buried underneath 20+ other compounds. The brand tells you it’s because they want to give you a well-rounded formula. The truth is, it’s only diluting what your hair really needs.

That’s why here at PLU Laboratories, we keep things simple with just 5-6 total ingredients per serum. AHK-Cu can do its thing without anything else getting in the way.

How to Use AHK-Cu Peptide Serum

As far as how to use AHK-Cu peptide serum, it’s no more complicated than brushing your teeth. Just a few simple steps:

  • Step 1: You want to apply the serum to a freshly washed scalp if possible. Any buildup is just going to prevent the peptide from penetrating into the areas it’s actually needed. It’s obviously not practical to wash your hair every night, so just rinse your scalp if you can and towel it dry. You just don’t want to apply over styling products or leave-in conditioner.
  • Step 2: You only need 2-3 drops on the areas where you’re dealing with the worst of the thinning. Part your hair to directly expose the scalp. You don’t want to apply the serum to your hair strands. The dropper helps you control placement with precision.
  • Step 3: Massage for 30 seconds using your fingertips (not your nails). Work the serum across the application area so it spreads evenly and absorbs into the scalp rather than sitting on top of your hair.
  • Step 4: Leave it in. No rinsing. The peptide needs to get soaked into your scalp to reach the follicle level. Style your hair as usual afterward, or just do this in the evening - ideally an hour or so before bed so it can dry before your head hits the pillow. The formula is water-based and won't leave residue or weigh your hair down.

What matters most is that you come up with a routine you can stick to every day for at least a few months - consistency is key. We just prefer nighttime applications. You might even consider applying the serum twice a day at first.

Don’t expect overnight results. Most of our customers find that the visible changes in density come after 6-8 weeks of consistent use. There are some things you can do to speed up that timeline a little…

More Tips to Boost the Performance of AHK-Cu

Getting the most out of your AHK-Cu serum means looking for other ways to support healthy hair growth. But one of the most underrated techniques for maximizing absorption of the peptide is dermarolling.

Dermarollers are handheld tools with a bunch of tiny needles on them. You roll the tool over your scalp (beware, it doesn’t feel good!) and create tiny micropunctures. Think of it as aerating your lawn before you fertilize. It stimulates your body’s healing response and boosts circulation in the scalp area, so the serum can be absorbed more efficiently.

Other than that, just do the right things for hair health in general. Wash your hair with sulfate-free shampoo, make sure you use a good conditioner so your scalp is hydrated and happy, and avoid aggressive haircare habits like tight hairstyles, heat styling, etc.

Diet matters as well. Eat plenty of protein, zinc, iron, and all the other nutrients your hair needs to thrive. Keep stress at bay, and most importantly, be patient. You might not see results for 3-6 months - but you’ll be glad you stuck with it when you finally did!

Are There Other Ways to Use AHK-Cu?

That’s our advice on how to use AHK-Cu - but you might find other people say that topical application isn’t the only way you can harness the power of copper peptides. They’re technically right.

Injectable protocols used to be an option. But the FDA recently reclassified them, so they’re no longer an option for most people. And truthfully, they were never the best way to go about it because they distribute AHK-Cu throughout your entire body. On the other hand, topicals go right on the scalp where the peptide is actually needed most.

Oh, and don’t fall for brands that tell you a multi-ingredient serum is better than one with meaningful concentrations because you’re getting more well-rounded support. We’ve come up with a serum that contains everything you need, and nothing you don’t.

Frequently asked questions

Do you inject AHK-Cu?

No - definitely not anymore, and it was never the right approach if you wanted the best results for your hair. A topical serum lets you be more precise with where you’re putting the good stuff, so you can be sure it’s working its magic on your hair, not just your body in general.

How to use AHK-Cu peptide?

Just use the dropper right on a clean scalp and then massage the oil in. Leave it there overnight. Do this every day. It’s that easy.

Can I mix AHK-Cu with GHK-Cu?

Yes, they’re different copper tripeptide variants (Copper Tripeptide-3 and Copper Tripeptide-1) with distinct signaling profiles. We also carry separate copper peptides for hair tonics at 1% concentration. You can learn more about AHK-Cu vs GHK-Cu in our blog.

How much AHK-Cu to use?

Honestly, less is more. Just enough to fully cover all your trouble areas. Then massage it in place. Overusing the product isn’t going to speed up the timeline to results.
